Council luncheon will
feature a panel of local
safety experts who will
guide attendees on how to
design and implement
effective safety committees.
During this informative
presentation, engaging
speakers will guide
attendees through the
functions and
responsibilities of the
committee and its members,
introduce proven techniques
and approaches to create
effective committees and
tactics on how committees
can make a positive
contribution to improving
workplace safety.

Our panel of speakers
includes
Stephen Gronow,
safety compliance officer
with the Stark County
Engineer’s Office,
Norman Hostetler,
safety director for Beaver
Excavating and
Colleen Maurer,
human resources manager for
Paarlo Plastics, Inc.
Gronow
has been responsible for
safety compliance at the
Stark County Engineer’s
Office since 1994. He works
to develop health and safety
programs, interpret codes
and standards, leads health
and safety inspections,
accident and illness
investigations, manages
record keeping, education
and safety training for 160
employees and handles system
safety method analysis. He
has a bachelor’s in
engineering technology, fire
protection and safety, from
Oklahoma State University.
Prior to joining the Stark
County Engineer’s Office he
was a lieutenant firefighter
for the Mansfield Airport.
Hostetler
has been with Beaver
Excavating since 1976.
After working 14 years in
the Dispatch and Field
Operations Office, he was
appointed full time company
safety director in 1990 and
reports directly to the
president. His educational
background includes a
bachelor’s degree from Kent
State University. He
attended the OSHA Institutes
Basic Instructor Course and
has been certified as an
Instructor in Construction
Safety and Health since
1990. He has served on The
Ohio Contractor
Association’s Safety
Committee and Environmental
Committee every year since
1990. He is also the
Chairman of the Safety
Committee of The Builder’s
Exchange of East Central
Ohio.
Maurer
is responsible for the
day-to-day operations of an
effective human resources
department for the North
Canton-based plastic product
molder company. In addition
to her vast benefit and
employee policy work, she is
responsible for leading the
safety committee to enhance
the company’s safety culture
by implementing programs and
involving employees at all
levels. She works to
decrease the Experience
Modifier Penalty Workers’
Compensation rating by
adopting programs sponsored
by the Division of Safety
and Hygiene as well as the
Bureau of Workers’
Compensation. She has a
bachelor’s degree from Ohio
Northern University in
business administration.
